Representatives from the DOH Regional Office led by its health education and promotion officer, Ms. Bernadine Hayag, visited the Bohol Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez and discussed about Last Mile School for the pilot implementation of the Healthy Learning Institutions Program in the province.
Last Mile School are schools that have less than four classrooms, usually makeshift and nonstandard, no electricity, no funds for repairs or new construction projects in the past four years, a travel distance of more than one hour away from the center, and with accessibility only through difficult terrain. These are schools with multi-grade classes, have less than five teachers, and a population of fewer than 100 learners, the majority of whom are indigenous peoples.DOH, Bohol PHO and DepEd shall be working together in the identification, monitoring, and evaluation of the schools with disadvantaged students who do not have sufficient access to quality education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
